Maria Blanck

About the Artist:

Painting began quite by accident for me. While visiting an artist friend, I was invited to attend one of her classes, where I was encouraged to paint a vase of flowers along with everyone else in the class. I enjoyed it so much I soon enrolled in a nearby museum class and began painting primitives (reminiscent of Grandma Moses) with acrylic paints. I continued to study at the DeCordova Museum in Lincoln, MA, as well as with well known artist George Dergalis. All that was about 15 years ago.

About the Work:

About five years later, I became interested in watercolor and joined a weekly class with Ray Doyle, an accomplished New England watercolorist. I still participate in this class when I return to my northern home every summer. I regard my painting as an ongoing learning process and therefore, attend classes and workshops regularly. Since living in Savannah, I have studied with Rebecca Kahrs Willis and have participated in workshops with Al Stine, Susanna Spann, Patricia Lusk, Tom Lynch and Mary Whyte.

On a more private note, I treasure the solitary time I spend painting in my home studio, practicing, learning and watching the gradual evolution of each work. Beyond that, it is truly an added bonus when someone admires my efforts. I was honored to receive a blue ribbon at The Landings Art Association Annual Show in 2002, a Judge’s award in 2004, and a poster contest win in 2005.
