Vicky Hennie

About the Artist:

Vicky was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. She came to Savannah in 1979 with her family when her late husband accepted a position with Union Camp Corp., a paper manufacturer. Her adult children include a daughter, who lives with her husband and two children (their Grammy’s pride and joy) in Fayetteville, NC, and a son who resides in Atlanta, GA. Although art has interested Vicky throughout her life, she didn’t pursue those interests and start painting until retiring from the business world a few years ago. Vicky then joined an oil painting class at Generation One, a local senior center. This is where she started, as she calls it, “her recreational painting” under the tutelage of Sam Hirsch. Vicky’s Tuesday painting sessions are sacred to her as she enjoys the time with friends and in front of her canvas. To further develop her interest in the local art community, Vicky joined the Savannah Art Association (SAA) and currently serves on its executive board. She is also a member of the Savannah Artist’s Guild and the Landings Art Association. Vicky has participated in several SAA drawing and painting workshops. Early in 2007, Vicky attended a five-day oil painting workshop at City Market with New York sculptor and painter Paul Luchessi. His instruction in the set up, lighting and painting of various still lifes, figurative work and plein air studies was invaluable in furthering Vicky’s art education. With Paul’s encouragement and constant urging, Vicky expanded her painting style and scope of subjects.

About the Work:

Her work has appeared in several SAA shows in the Association’s Gallery at the Senior Citizens Building on Bull Street, First Saturdays on River Street, the City Market Lobby Gallery and City Market Courtyard. In October of 2007, Vicky’s paintings were included in a four-woman exhibit, “The Nature of Things”, at the Jewish Educational Alliance in Savannah. From June 2007 through May 2008 Vicky’s work was shown at the Art Center at City Market in Gallery 11, 309 W. Saint Julian Street. As of June 1, 2008 her work can be viewed in Studio 4 South in the Art Center at City Market.
