Looking for Found Objects, Reused Items, MM Art
Good Morning,
I am looking for artist that work with mixed media, found objects, or reused items to put on display at the Resource Conservation Education Center. Chatham County does not want to be a broker or retain any percentage from the sale of your work. We just want to demonstrate that a disposed item can take on another life to children, home owners, and building professionals. Our hope is to have art work revolve on a continuous basis. I've made contact with several artist already and I'm looking forward to working with them and many more.
Address: 1321 Eisenhower drive. Hours: Tuesday-Saturday 8:30-5:00
The Center is to be opened mid October to mid November depending on final construction. We have over 150' gallery hanging system ordered. Currently we don't have any display stands or counters for display.
The Center is conveniently located near: Isle of Hope, Dutch Island, Skidaway Island, Burnside Island, Coffee Bluff, and Vernonburg. Our neighbors currently support the recycling center on this location. Please feel free to call me or stop by the Center to look around.
Below is part of an article published eight months ago.
"The old Mosquito Control Facility located at 1321 Eisenhower Drive is being “recycled” the ugly, over-grown caterpillar will have begun its metamorphosis into what will eventually be a one-stop recycling, resource conservation and education center that will serve the entire community.
One of the primary goals of the facility is to be a working laboratory to showcase renewable products that can successfully incorporated into home and business settings alike such as: solar, VOC-free bamboo flooring and wall coverings, ply-boo, recycled glass tiles, 100% recycled sheetrock, lowflow plumbing fixtures and wheat cored doors, HVAC SEER-16 individualized room heating/cooling systems, VOC-free interior and exterior paints, 100% recycled roofing shingles, LED energy conserving lighting, spray foam roof & wall insulation, and a solar water heater to provide on-site hot water. The idea of the center is to provide actual applications of these products in a real world setting.
In addition, the Resource Conservation Education Center will serve as host to continuous on-site projects and workshops open to all ages, including individuals, families and groups in the community. Vendors and knowledgeable professionals with various resource conservation backgrounds, experience and expertise will present hands-on workshops and lectures about products and
practices demonstrated in the Center. Xeriscaping demonstration areas as well as a variety of lectures and workshops for individuals and families will be offered to share knowledge and practical applications for projects to then be done in homes and businesses throughout the community.
The Resource Conservation Education Center will focus on rotating community artists to do “found object” art work and demonstrations that shows the artistic process involved in developing individual works of art."
Thank You,
