Penny Day Thompson

About the Artist:

Penny Day Thompson, the Co-President of the LAA, is a self taught watercolorist who has moved to the Landings from Long Island where she taught high school math for 35 years. In the evenings, she also taught watercolors in private classes as well as Adult Education in the Mt. Sinai and Port Jefferson school districts for over 15 years. Many of her works were sold in galleries on Long Island and to private collectors.

Penny’s interests include golfing, tennis, gardening, biking, boating and walking and just about any outdoor activity, so through the long winters up north, she took up painting to help pass the months she was kept indoors by the icy weather. She soon learned to express her love of nature and the outdoors through watercolors. After taking one adult education course in beginning watercolors she just starting reading and studying other watercolorists she admired and soon found herself immersed in discovering the ways the water and paint work together to create all type of effects until she developed a style of her own. Boats, lighthouses and flowers are her favorite subjects, but she often challenges herself to paint any subject around her.

Penny lives here with her husband, John, on Seawatch Drive. She is thankful for bringing plenty of her paintings with her for her walls as she has not done much painting since moving here. The “New Neighbors”, “LWGA”, “Rusty Racquets”, “Landlovers”, “Wednesday Golf Group”, “The Landings Art League” and her garden and friends are just keeping her too busy. Isn’t life wonderful here?

About the Work:

Her work is just her way of expressing the beauty she finds in nature and all the things surrounding her. Most of her paintings are from photographs she has taken, so you will often see her out early morning or around sunset with her camera in hand. She hopes you enjoy her art as much as she enjoys creating it.

Penny can be contacted at (912) 344-4149 or PPandJT@comcast.net
