Margaret Brennan
Margaret Brennan, who resides in Savannah, studied photography in New York City at the International Center of Photography (ICP), the State University of New York and The New School. Her course work and workshops covered the gamut from color to black and white to infrared and other photographic alternatives. She learned to print her own work in the chemical as well as the digital darkroom Margaret’s photography has been exhibited in New York and Georgia, and it continues to win awards, lately at the fall shows of the Landings Art Association and the Tybee (Beach) Arts Association. Her work resides in many private and corporate collections, as well as being featured on magazine covers and in corporate advertisements. Locally her work may be seen at the Horizon Gallery on Bay Street and at other locations in Savannah and New York City. Margaret has been the guest lecturer at Savannah’s Telfair Museum and most recently at the Jepson Center for the Arts, presenting her slide show, “Lest We Forget,” a photographer’s journal that memorializes 9/11. Once again, this Fall she has been juried into the prestigious Telfair Art Fair which features artists from all over the United States.
Margaret’s subject matter ranges from coastal landscapes to architectural detail, and she is well known for her flower photography. Some juried comments are:
“Her Ossabaw Series captures the desolate, rugged splendor of this coastal haven, emphasizing organic forms as bare trees wash ashore like tangled driftwood.” (Allison Hersh, art critic for the Savannah Morning News).
“Savannah.” Holly Koons McCullough, Chief Curator, Telfair Museum of Art, writes “is a technical tour-de-force from the shadowy frieze of the docks to the brilliant setting sun.”
